“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land” G.K. Chesterton.

I love this quote and I agree with its sentiment. In fact, a trip close to home – often called a staycation – is pretty much the only kind of traveling most of us are doing at the moment. After months cooped up in our homes, most of us are desperate to take a short trip. A weekend away is enough to return refreshed and better equipped to handle whatever comes next!

The Right Bag

You only need one bag, the size of your typical carry-on. Depending on your style and preference that can be either a standard roller bag, a classy weekend bag with carrying handles, or even just a knapsack.

But before you throw the entire contents of your closet in an oversized piece of luggage, here are a few tips to help you pack better.

Pack light, pack basics

Layers are recommended for almost any kind of travel. All you have to do is pack a few key pieces that can seamlessly take you from day-to-night and can be worn in a variety of situations.

I recommend packing clothes that you can mix and match. Choose a neutral color (read: black) and throw in pops of color by including colorful accessories as accents.

What to bring

  • 1-2 pairs of pants/skirts
  • 1 pair of shorts or a dress
  • 2 tees or blouses
  • 1 hoodie or cardigan
  • 1 jacket
  • A pair of flats
  • A pair of sandals
  • A bathing suit
  • Underwear, socks, pj’s, toiletries
  • Tech (only if you must!)

If you mix and match these items, you actually have dozens of outfits to choose from, so even this super-short list is way more than you need to pack for a weekend away.
